Privacy Policy

Last updated 17 October 2026

Places is a travel companion for Android and iOS mobile devices, operated by Sushant. This policy explains what the app and this website handle, and what stays on your phone. Places does not sell personal information and does not use it for advertising.

Account

Sign-in is provided by Supabase. You can use an email and password, Sign in with Apple, or Sign in with Google. Places stores a profile for your account including your display name and account limits. Apple and Google receive the sign-in under their own policies.

Places you save

Confirmed places are stored on your phone, in a database for your account. A saved place can include the name, address, city, country, map coordinates, category, a link you shared, and a short note of the text that identified it, along with your own notes and whether you have visited it. From the account screen you can export a backup file of those places, and of any share still waiting for you to confirm. You choose where that file goes — Files, AirDrop, or another app — and Places does not upload it. Importing a backup adds those places on the phone you are using and updates a place when the backup copy is newer. Places already on the phone that are not in the file stay. Deleting the app removes the on-device database unless you have kept a backup. Signing out closes it on that phone.

Shares you send

When you share a screenshot, image, or Maps link, Places processes what is needed to find a venue. Text recognition and candidate extraction are performed locally on your phone using on-device machine learning and Apple Vision, so your images are not uploaded to remote servers. Candidate names or addresses are then resolved via Google Maps so you can confirm a place before it is saved. Places uses the share strictly to identify a venue, never to build an advertising profile or track you.

Location

If you allow it, Places uses your location on the phone to center the map and show saved places nearby. Twice during the daytime, the app can read your location again and, only if you have moved since the last reminder, tell you about unvisited saved places close by. That check stays on the phone. Places keeps the coordinate from the last reminder so it can skip a later check when you have not moved. It does not keep a history of where you have been. A search or a coordinate from a share can be sent to Google Maps to resolve a place name or address. Opening directions hands the destination to Apple Maps, Google Maps, or Waze.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, Places stores an Expo push token for your account so it can tell you that a place needs a look or could not be pinned. Signing out deletes that device’s token. Expo delivers that notification. A nearby-place reminder is created on the phone. Tapping it opens Places.

Limits and temporary records

Search, geocoding, and Gemini use are counted per account for the current day so daily plan limits can be applied. Geocoding results may be cached for up to 30 days so the same lookup is not repeated. These records are operational. They are not a profile of your trips.

This website

The Places website explains the app and hosts these policies. It does not ask you to create an account. The pages do not set tracking cookies for advertising.

Who else receives data

  • Supabase, for accounts and profiles.
  • Apple, if you use Sign in with Apple, on-device text recognition, or Apple Maps.
  • Google, if you use Sign in with Google, Maps search, or cloud fallback extraction on devices without on-device AI.
  • Expo, to deliver a push notification.
  • Waze, only if you choose it for directions.

Children

Places is not directed at children under 13, and it does not knowingly collect their information.

Your choices and account deletion

You can deny location or notifications in your device system settings. You can delete a saved place in the app. You can export a backup and import it on another device. You can sign out, which removes the push token for that device. Deleting the app removes places stored on that phone unless you kept a backup. You can permanently delete your account at any time in the app under Account → Delete account, which immediately deletes your authentication record, profile, device push tokens, and the local database on your phone. You can also request account deletion by emailing vsushant97@gmail.com from the address on the account.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date. Questions: vsushant97@gmail.com.
